Stadium Equorum: Rants About Horseracing

Ever Loved a Woman on her way to winning the Apiam Animal Health 0 - 58 Handicap at Bendigo

Ever Loved a Woman salutes on Caulfield Cup day...

Ever Loved a Woman ran out a comfortable winner of the 0-58 1400m race at Bendigo for Peter Lang and Will Price at 20-1.

Adopting her usual pattern at the rear of the field, Price rode a patient race tracking the favourite and had Ever Loved a Woman close enough upon strightening to claim the fourth event at Bendigo on Caulfield Cup day. A clever ride made to look even better by a strong effort from Ever Loved a Woman who fanned wide on the turn but let down very well at the 300m to win by a length from Sniperess (also favoured by this author).

This is Ever Loved a Woman's third win with this coming against the males and mares at the 0-58 rating.

Surprisingly relative short in the betting at 20-1, greater odds were expected but the drift did not come with bookmakers not prepared to offer as generous odds as those offered at Coleraine where Ever Loved a Woman simply got too far back. Speaking to reporters after the race, when asked for the next target, Geelong based trainer Peter Lang responded: "We'll see how she pulls up, take one step at a time, assess the options in the morning, see how she eats up, consult with the owners and then take it from there."

While Mr. Lang was left contemplating more empty  platitudes, others are are now left wondering how earlier plunges at Yea and Woolamai failed with some thinking their judgement is acceptable but their timing woeful.
